Deep Wonder AR
DEV TOOL | UNITY
Target Platform | Mobile (Android & iOS)
Performance company PearlDamour reached out to me about building a digital experience for the intermission of their production, Ocean Filibuster.
As a solo production team, I built a mobile augmented reality app that told the story of deep sea heat vents and a whale fall ecosystems.
I worked with subject matter experts from the Harvard Girguis Lab who provided 3D scan files of real underwater heat vents and a whale fall, and written content to display in the app.

The Experiences
Whale Fall Ecosystem
I optimized the 3D scanned whale bone file and placed it on a elevated surface.
I modeled, textured, animated fish and anemonae assets and placed them around the whale bones. This was based on real expedition videos reviewed by SMEs.
We placed four info-bubbles around the scene. Tapping on a bubble would show information about the scene.

Heat Vent Ecosystem
I optimized the 3D scanned heat vent file and animated it to appear from the ground, as if it was emerging from the deep sea.
I modeled, textured and animated yeti crabs and shrimp assets and placed them on the heat vents. This was based on real expedition videos reviewed by SMEs.
